Program structure

German-French Studies is an undergraduate, integrated, bi-national bachelor's program which has been developed by Universit?t Regensburg, the University of Clermont Auvergne and Université C?te d'Azur. The degree program is built around an interdisciplinary approach. For this reason, no combinations with other subjects are envisaged.

The program is organized into three academic years. All students begin their studies at their home university, spend the second year together in Clermont-Ferrand or Nice, and then come to Universit?t Regensburg for their third year.

The students do an internship after the second year of study.
The program is concluded in the summer semester of the third year of study with a bachelor's thesis.

Description

Cross-national and cross-disciplinary, it offers you theoretical knowledge, the expertise of various disciplines and practical experience within the framework of a unique combination:

  • International, interdisciplinary studies with an individual focus on specific topics
  • Acquisition of intercultural, regional and practical language skills
  • Integrated one-year study abroad program in Clermont-Ferrand or Nice
  • Double degree Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)?recognized in Germany and France after only 6 semesters
  • Integrated internships (2 months) in companies and organizations in Germany, France and other French-speaking countries
  • Preparation for a job in international companies, cultural institutions and public institutions
  • Studying together with fellow French?students
  • Possibility of receiving a mobility grant from the Franco-German University of Applied Sciences of max. 300 euros per month during the study abroad phase (as of October 2021) and applying for a mobility grant from the Bavarian-French University Center

Professional prospects / competencies

The aim of Franco-German Studies is to provide students with key qualifications for their studies and careers. A special emphasis is placed on the following aspects:

  • Acquisition of foreign language communicative competencies.
  • Acquisition of knowledge of the country and culture and of methodological skills
  • Acquisition of intercultural competence
  • Broadening of academic horizons and setting one's own priorities.
  • Through compulsory internships, students gain initial practical work experience, especially in an international, German-French context, and prepare themselves for various fields of work, e.g. in the area of business, cross-border cooperation or cultural management. Through the corresponding specialization (see above), additional knowledge is acquired that is relevant and useful in the various professional fields.

A two-month internship is obligatory, including at least one month in a French speaking country.

Program duration / standard period of study

The length of the program depends on the progress of an individual's studies. The standard period of study, the time in which the intended program can be finished ideally is 6 semesters. The actual time taken to complete the program may vary. It is limited by the examination deadlines set out in the examination regulations.

Restricted admittance

No, this program is does not have restricted admission based on grades. Please note, however, that you have to take part in an eligibility test.


Legal requirements for admission

General university entrance qualification, subject-linked university entrance qualification or vocational qualification.

Furthermore, you must undergo an aptitude test, which means that you must apply for the course. Prerequisites are Abitur or a comparable university entrance qualification (final grade of at least good) and good knowledge of French, approx. B2 of the European Framework of Reference CEFR.

Registration dates and deadlines

After passing the aptitude test you can enroll. Information about the dates for enrollment and the required documents can be found on the homepage of the Registrar's Office.


Language skills needed

French: B2
Foreign applicants applying to Regensburg must be able to provide evidence of German language skills at the level of the German Language Test for University Admission of Foreign Study Applicants (DSH) or a German language examination equivalent to it. This is also possible retrospectively and must be done by the end of the first semester of study at the latest.


Documents needed (to apply / register)

Required are:

  • Completed DFS application form - (If one page cannot be processed, insert an additional sheet).
  • uncertified copy of the certificate of general or subject-related university entrance qualification (can also be submitted later during the aptitude test)
  • Proof of French language skills (min. B2), if not listed in the Abitur/school leaving certificate

How is admission to the program decided?

The suitability of candidates is determined by the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Regensburg. After the receipt of the documents, the applicants are invited to a selection procedure at the University of Regensburg (usually in the fourth week of July). There you will then complete:

  • A written test, in which the applicants' language skills in particular are tested. It consists of a multiple-choice test and an essay to be freely written in the foreign language.
  • A personal interview with a binational selection committee. Here, the applicants should convince with their general knowledge, their ability to express themselves linguistically, their ability to reflect and abstract as well as their social competence and willingness to?express their specific interest in the study program.

If the result of the aptitude test is "passed", you will be admitted to the German-French Studies program at the University of Regensburg.

If the result is "not passed", you can re-register for the selection procedure for the following winter semester if you wish.
