Program structure

German-Czech Studies is a bi-national interdisciplinary bachelor's degree program anchored in the cultural and social sciences. It spans 6 semesters and is offered in cooperation with Charles University in Prague. German students do not need any prior knowledge of Czech to begin the program.

Both German and Czech students spend their first year of study at their home university. They all spend the second year together at Charles University in Prague. All students then spend the third and final year together in Regensburg. Here, they take advanced seminars in their specializations during the 5th semester and write their bachelor's thesis during the 6th semester.

The interdisciplinary program German-Czech Studies prepares students for relevant master's degree programs in accordance with their specializations (in Regensburg, for example, for International Economics, East-West Studies, East European Studies, Intercultural European Studies and more).


Special features

Dual Bachelor of Arts, academic year at Charles University in Prague as an integral part of program, three-month internship integrated into course of study, acquisition of Czech language competency up to UNIcert level four (C1/2).


Description

Czech-German Studies are an interdisciplinary major comprised of the following disciplines: Practical Language Skills and Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Literary Studies (optional), History, Political Science, Law and/or Business. Core competencies are developed in core modules and the bachelor's thesis.


Professional prospects / competencies

Czech-German Studies prepare students for continuing studies in their core disciplines in master programs and for work and careers in Czech, German and international institutions, organizations, companies, projects as well as in teaching and research.


Internships, lab courses, practical courses

The program includes a compulsory three-month internship in Czechia to gain intercultural skills and to prepare for working life in international organizations, businesses and projects. The internship is generally undertaken after the stay abroad in Prague.


Disciplines involved

Czech linguitics, literature and culture studies, depending on the focus: history, politics, law and/or economics.


Program duration / standard period of study

The length of the program depends on the progress of an individual's studies. The standard period of study, the time in which the intended program can be finished ideally is 6 semesters. The actual time taken to complete the program may vary. It is limited by the examination deadlines set out in the examination regulations.
