Mathematics M.Sc.

Degree

Master of Science

Program structure

Two of the following three constrained elective modules are mandatory, each consisting of 18 CP (Credit Points): arithmetic geometry, global analysis and geometry, applied analysis. Students also take an in-depth area (18 CP). This generally contains the master's thesis and a seminar module. In addition to mathematical courses, there is a minor subject (at least 12 CP) and courses in the elective area (at least 8 CP), which together must total at least 27 CP.

Special features

Thanks to the CRC "Higher Invariants" and the Graduate School "Interfaces, Complex Structures, and Singular Limits in Continuum Mechanics" the mathematical faculty is highly visible internationally. In the context of the CRC and the graduate school, many research focused seminars and courses are offered which can also be attended by advanced master's students.

Description

The master's program in Mathematics is a postgraduate course that builds on a completed undergraduate degree in mathematics or a comparable degree. Students at the University of Regensburg can explore the following areas of research:

  • Arithmetic Geometry
  • Global Analysis and Geometry
  • Applied Analysis

Students have the possibility to choose a minor subject and general courses.

The master's program at the University of Regensburg introduces students to current research topics in mathematics. It also provides a strong foundation to pursue a doctoral degree at an international level.

Professional prospects / competencies

  • Banks and insurance companies
  • Research and development
  • Software production, IT services
  • Electronics: telecommunications, medical technology, consumer electronics
  • Management consultancy
  • Management
