Cost Settlement

Here you will find information on various options for accounting the costs of our psychotherapeutic services.

We would like to point out that costs are already accounted for the first consultation appointment regardless of whether psychotherapy will subsequently be started with us.

Statutory health insurance

Psychotherapeutic consultation hours and probationary sessions

For patients with statutory health insurance the statutory health insurance covers the costs of psychotherapeutic consultation hours and probationary sessions ("trial sessions") prior to starting psychotherapy.

Acute treatment

If there is a mental disorder and one of our psychotherapists indicates the need for treatment, the costs of acute treatment are also covered by the statutory health insurance.

Psychotherapy (short-term or long-term therapy)

In order for the costs of psychotherapy (short-term or long-term therapy) to be covered by the statutory health insurance funds the therapist and the patient or the patient's guardians must apply to the health insurance provider during the probationary phase for the costs of psychotherapy to be covered. The health insurance agencies process this application within about three weeks. As soon as the assumption of costs for psychotherapy is confirmed the actual psychotherapeutic sessions begin.

Private health insurance

Psychotherapeutic consultation

Private health insurances have different regulations regarding the coverage of psychotherapeutic sessions depending on the health insurance company and the rate. Patients with private health insurance should therefore find out whether and to what extent psychotherapeutic sessions are covered by their insurance plan before making an appointment for a consultation at our outpatient centre.

Acute treatment and psychotherapy (short- and long-term therapy)

If the indication for acute treatment or psychotherapy is given during the psychotherapeutic consultation or during probationary sessions ("trial sessions" before starting psychotherapy), an application for cost coverage may have to be submitted to your private health insurance. Your psychotherapist will help you with this, if necessary.

The following questions may be relevant for clarifying whether private health insurance will cover the costs of psychotherapeutic sessions:

  • Is outpatient behavioural therapy possible in a University Outpatient Centre with authorisation to bill health insurance companies?
  • Can outpatient behavioural therapy be carried out by a psychological psychotherapist?
  • Does the therapist have to be licensed in behavioural therapy (psychological psychotherapist) or can psychotherapists in training also carry out the psychotherapy?
  • Does the therapist have to be registered as a medical doctor in addition to being licensed?
  • Does the health insurance fund cover the costs of the probationary sessions?
  • How many behavioural therapy sessions does the health insurance fund pay for after the probationary sessions?
  • Does an application for psychotherapy have to be submitted after the probationary sessions in order to start the therapy phase?
  • Does the health insurance pay the full hourly fee or only a percentage of it?

In case of open questions or uncertainties regarding the assumption of costs by private health insurances we will be happy to support you. Please contact us by phone for this purpose.

Beihilfe

The Beihilfe (state aid for officials) reimburses up to a certain number of psychotherapeutic sessions. After the psychotherapeutic consultation or the probationary period ("trial sessions" before starting psychotherapy) an application must be submitted to the relevant Beihilfe office. Your psychotherapist will be happy to help you with this.

Self-payers

In addition to accounting via one's health insurance, Beihilfe or other cost units, we also offer cost billing as a self-payer. Psychotherapeutic services are invoiced in accordance with the scale of fees for psychotherapists (GOP).

In the case of self-pay patients the prerequisites for an effective therapy are of course examined in the same way as for other patients and an individualised therapy offer is made.

If you have any questions regarding self-payment, you are welcome to contact us by phone.

Others

In case of various other cost units (employers' liability insurance associations, German Armed Forces, etc.) or in the case of psychotherapeutic treatment as a result of an accident an individual clarification may be necessary, in which we will be happy to support you.
