Consultation for Children, Adolescents, and their families

General Consultation

Psychotherapeutic consultation for children, adolescents, and their families

You suffer from fear, sad or stressful thoughts, numbness, attentional problems, thoughts or actions, which are somehow different and you cannot handle on your own?

As a parent or guardian, do you have a child or adolescent, who has become withdrawn, shwos unusual behaviour at school, exhibits problematic behaviours, reports distressing thoughts, or is displays other psychological distress?

In the psychotherapeutic consultation, we determine whether a mental illness is present and whether psychotherapy is indicated. Children and at least one parent or guardian come together to the consultation. Older adolescents can also attend the consultation alone. Patients with statutory health insurance are required to attend a psychotherapeutic consultation before psychotherapy can be started.

In our University Outpatient Centre, we run substantiated diagnostics of the complaints and discuss possible services (e.g. preventive measures, counselling centres, self-help groups, etc.) and, if necessary, suitable treatment options (e.g. outpatient psychotherapy, acute outpatient treatment, inpatient psychotherapy, etc.). In doing so, we are guided by current scientific findings and recognized psychotherapeutic procedures and methods. If necessary, we will also arrange medical assessments or medicinal co-treatment. In addition, we can prescribe occupational therapy, sociotherapy or home support by a psychiatric nurse specialist or arrange for inpatient treatment.

If outpatient psychotherapy is indicated, we will support you in finding a therapy place with an external psychotherapist. If there are paces available, we can also offer you an outpatient teaching or research therapy in our Outpatient Centre.

To contact us for a consultation appointment (via phone or email), please find our contact information here. A referral is not necessary.

Eating disorder consultation

Eating disorder consultation for children, adolescents, and their families

Do you eat less or more selectively than you used to? Or do you sometimes have binge eating episodes where you eat a lot? Or maybe you exercise a lot or throw up out of fear of gaining weight or because you do not like your body. As a parent, have you noticed any changes in your child's eating behaviour?

In cases of eating disorders, binge eating, excessive excercise and body image disorders, we offer diagnostic clarification and counselling on various therapy options. We also refer to a detailed medical assessment of possible physical causes or comorbid diseases. If necessary, outpatient psychotherapy can also be started in our teaching and research outpatient centre.

To make an appointment for the eating disorder consultation, please find our contact details here.

Consultation in acute crises or after trauma

Consultation hours for children, adolescents and their families in acute crises or after trauma

We offer a special consultation hour for children and adolescents who have experienced a traumatic event (e.g. an accident, violence, sexual abuse, etc.) or are currently in an acute crisis. During the consultation we can clarify any psychological complaints and advise on further steps for support.

To contact us for a consultation appointment (by phone or email), our contact information can be found here. A referral is not necessary. If support is required soon, please ask for a prompt acute appointment when making your appointment. However, please note that we are not an emergency outpatient clinic and therefore a (short) waiting time until a first consultation appointment is to be expected.
