The Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model is a rare example of an analytically well-understood strongly interacting system. It therefore serves as a toy model for novel quantum phases; in particular, it is proposed to model some aspects of non-Fermi liquid phases. The caveat of this Hamiltonian and its relatives is the missing link to microscopic realism, in condensed matter physics or quantum chemistry.
My focus in this area of research lies in modifying the SYK model such that it can be brought closer to experimental reality. Hence we investigate the role of additional kinetic terms and compare with models which share curical symmetries with the fundamental microscopic electron-electron interactions, i.e. interactions which commute with the local density.
