Accommodation

Exchange students can apply for a room in a student residence through the online-application portal for exchange students. The International Office is usually able to find a room for all exchange students as long as they have applied within the official application deadlines.

You have to consider the following costs if you want to reserve a room:

  • € 350, - rental deposit (will be refunded after moving out)
  • € 175, - reservation fee (will not be refunded)

The reservation fee is used to keep the financial burden of vacant rooms as low as possible for everyone.

The minimum rental period is:

  • for the winter semester: October to February.
  • for the summer semester: April to July.
  • for complete-year candidates: October to July.

After you apply for a room, you will receive a personal room offer and acceptance letter from the IO.

Important:

Only if you return the acceptance letter and pay the deposit and reservation fee within the deadline, the reservation is valid!

We don't recommend to come to Regensburg without a room reservation through the IO, as it is very difficult to find a suitable accommodation by yourself (real estate agent fees, unfurnished, unfavorable rental period).

Data transfer and data processing

The International Office cooperates with different housing providers. For the cooperation with the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz a separate agreement on data transfer has been made.

Information about the rooms in the student dormitories

Address

The International Office has reserved a room for you in a student dormitory. The exact address of your room (dormitory, room number) can only be provided upon arrival in Regensburg for organizational reasons.

Facilities/Furnishing

  • All rooms are single rooms.
  • Not all rooms have their own bathroom.
  • They are distributed throughout the Regensburg city area.
  • They all have standard furnishings (bed, closet, desk and desk chair).
  • The dormitories are for mixed genders which means that students of all genders live together in a dormitory, and share the kitchen, bathrooms and other shared facilities.
  • Special requests can only be taken into consideration in particularly justified cases (please indicate these in your application).
  • After you have placed your room reservation, the IO will assign a room to you.

On the website of the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz you can see photos of rooms in the Studentenwerk dormitories.

Cooking and eating

The room rental prices do not include food and there are no cafeterias in the dormitories.

Students can cook their own meals or eat in the Mensa on Campus (at lunchtime). The eating halls at Regensburg University of Applied Sciences (OTH) also offers dinner.

In most dormitories you share the kitchen with other students (about 6 - 12 students).

You will need to bring this with you or buy it in Regensburg:

  • Cooking utensils such as pots
  • Crockery and cutlery
  • You can buy a basic set in any larger supermarket for about € 50.

Washing

There are washing machines and dryers in the dormitories. Irons are not available.

Private Rooms or Shared Flats

Students who are nominated after our nomination deadline or submit the documents after the deadline can usually no longer be provided with a room through the IO. This also applies to students who come to Regensburg only for a short time or outside the regular semester times.

These students must look for a room on the private housing market themselves.
