On Sunday, 8 October, we are planning an excursion which will take participants to the beautiful surroundings of Regensburg, a boat trip on the River Danube, a monastery and a beer garden, and a historical monument.
At 9 o'clock, we will leave from the University to the city of Kelheim, where we board a boat and go upriver to Weltenburg Abbey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weltenburg_Abbey). There is a beautiful and well-known baroque church there, and a very popular beer garden which serves dark beer and local food.
On the return trip down by boat we can enjoy the "Danube Gorge" (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donaudurchbruch_bei_Weltenburg; http://www.danube.travel/explore/Danube-Gorge-and-surroundings.d-65.223.html), a spot where the river winds through narrow rocks.
Back in Kelheim, we will go uphill to the Liberation Hall (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Befreiungshalle; http://en.kelheim.de/poi/befreiungshalle_kelheim-1610/), a memorial of the Napoleonic Wars from where we can enjoy a beautiful view of the Danube valley in this area. We expect to be back in Regensburg at about 4 p.m.
The price for the excursion is 30.00 Euros, and covers transportation, boat, and entry fees. Please register for the excursion together with your conference registration.
