Lecture: Revelations from Regensburg: The Manuscript Bischo?fliche Zentralbibliothek BH 6003 and the Roman Legacy of Richafort’s Requiem

Dienstag 28. Mai 2024, 16:00 Uhr - Dienstag 28. Mai 2024, 18:00 Uhr

Prof. Dr. Antonio Chemotti (KU Leuven, Alamire Foundation, KBR) & Dr. Nicolò Ferrari (University of Manchester)

Abstract: Our presentation addresses the manuscript Regensburg, Bisch?fliche Zentralbibliothek, BH 6003, a choirbook copied in Rome towards the end of the sixteenth century. This source contains a copy of the Requiem mass by Jean Richafort (1480–1547), an important setting probably composed at the French royal court in the 1510s. Despite Richafort's Requiem being one of the most performed and extensively studied Renaissance settings of the Mass for the Dead, BH 6003 has so far escaped the attention of scholars and is ignored in all studies and editions of Richafort's works. In our presentation, we will discuss the material characteristics of BH 6003 and offer some hypotheses about its context of production and use. Additionally, we will adress the significance of BH 6003 both for the history of Richafort's Requiem and for the history of the Requiem in Renaissance Italy.

Admission is free. All interested parties are welcome.
