The International Office and the Center of Language and Communication (ZSK) at UR have joined forces to offer German intensive language courses to students on the English-taught Master's programs during the lecture-free period.
A participant commented: "It was a super program and excellent teachers. Hopefully this takes place all year round for students like myself to pick up German faster. Thanks for your hard work."
Usually, the courses are tuition-based, but thanks to the iSTEPS funding, 29 students were able to level up their German this September during the five-week courses at the ZSK with only a small contribution. Out of the 29 participants, 23 reached level B1 or above.
Next intensive language course is schedule for March 2025.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Claudia Pedraza, international alumna of the University of Regensburg and HR specialist.
The lecturer guided us through the most important steps of the job search, gave us valuable advice for successful job interviews and showed us how to conduct our salary negotiations confidently and successfully. Her review of each participant's resume and her individual counseling sessions were especially valuable.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend such an informative lecture. The whole lecture had a lot of information and valuable suggestions. Overall, the whole session was so good.” - this is just one of the many positive responses from the participants.
As part of the iSTEPS project at the University of Regensburg, international students had the opportunity to improve their oral and rhetorical skills. The Intercultural Rhetorical Competence (IRK) program was developed to prepare students for the diverse demands of intercultural communication. The iSTEPS IRK program is designed for regular international students and international applicants attending preparatory courses at the UR.
Participants learned the practical basics of presentation, including body language and presentation structure. A special feature of the program was individual coaching, in which students kept a video diary of how they perceived themselves and others, and developed strategies for coping with stress during presentations.

There's no one-size-fits-all solution to the 'Fachkr?ftemangel' problem. Truth is Germany has great talents in the making in all the higher education institutions and has not been able to support them and motivate them to stay.
Now this will change, the programs of the Campus Intitiavite for International Talents aim to fix this leak. Students from all over the world will profit from the individual projects and the resources now made available directy where they at.
At the University of Regensburg we continue this line of work in the Internatiotal Office's Project iSTEPS. As a participant in the Campus Initiative kick-off in Berlin, we take away some great ideas and networking opportunities.
In the first weeks of the summer semester, we were delighted to be invited to the Faculty of Economics' Career Fair (Karriere-Kontakte) to present our newly implemented project. Our stand was buzzing with students, who were eager to learn more and were excited to be recruited for upcoming events. The International Office also had the wonderful opportunity to offer an Impuls Talk for international students.
We are already looking forward to next year's fair!?
