Professor Dr. Udo Hebel is the tenth President of Universit?t Regensburg. He began his first term of office on April 1, 2013; the second term runs from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2023. On November 18, 2022, Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel was re-elected by the University Council for another term of office, which will start on April 1, 2023.

UDO J. HEBEL is Professor and Chair of American Studies at Universit?t Regensburg. He taught at the universities of Mainz, Potsdam, and Freiburg, and was a Distinguished Max Kade Visiting Professor at Colorado College, Colorado Springs. He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and at Harvard University.
He has published Romaninterpretation als Textarch?ologie (1989), Intertextuality, Allusion, Quotation (1989), Transatlantic Encounters (co-ed., 1995), “Those Images of Jealuosie”: Identit?ten und Alterit?ten im puritanischen Neuengland (1997), The Construction and Contestation of American Cultures and Identities in the Early National Period (ed., 1999), Sites of Memory in American Literatures and Cultures (ed., 2003), Visual Culture in the American Studies Classroom (co-ed., 2005), Twentieth-Century American One-Act Plays (2006), Einführung in die Amerikanistik/American Studies (2008), Transnational American Memories (ed., 2009), Pictorial Cultures and Political Iconographies (co-ed., 2011), Transnational American Studies (ed., 2012) and New England Forefathers' Day Orations, 1770-1865?(ed., 2016).
He served as General Editor of Amerikastudien/American Studies, as Deputy Director of the Bavarian American Academy, as Chair of the International Committee of the ASA, and as the President of the German Association for American Studies. He is an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, MA, and as International Delegate an ex officio member of the Board of the German Association for American Studies. He is also the Founding Director of the Regensburg European American Forum (REAF).
He served as Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Literatures, as Dean of Research of the Faculty of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and as Vice President of Universit?t Regensburg. Since April 2013, he has been the President of Universit?t Regensburg. From april 2016 to march 2021 he has served as Deputy Chair of the Bavarian Universities'?Conference.
